What’s the point?

While traveling around a town near me I saw something that struck me as sorta odd. It was a man with a leaf blower, blowing the leaves out of his yard and into the street. Probably millions of people do this everyday and I’m the strange one because I think it is pointless. I mean, if you really want to get rid of the leaves you have to rake them, pile them, put them into trash bags, and dispose of them. By my way of thinking, if you just blow them away from your house all you’ve done is temporarily relocated them or made them someone else’s problem. Neither of which fixes the situation.

I sat in my truck and watched for just a few minutes while I pondered and something hit me. I’ve done this. Well, not with leaves but with actions or words I regretted. Thoughts that were not nice that I spent too much time chewing on. So many times in the past I’ve struggled with things and instead of admitting the mistake, the issue, the struggle, I’ve taken a figurative, leaf blower, if you will, and just scooted them away like they never happened. I didn’t want to know that that, whatever it was, was in me and I for sure didn’t want a Holy and Almighty Father to know! After all when all the leaves are out in the street and away from me I don’t have to deal with them anymore.

They come back.

As I write this the wind has really picked up. At the time I took this picture it was barely even breezy. The sun was shining and warm on my skin and the skies were a bright clear blue. Now, the wind is blowing and gusting and carries a biting chill and blue skies have been replaced with dismal gray. Considering the wind direction, I guarantee those leaves are right back in his yard.

That is the way it goes when we don’t deal with our stuff. When we turn an eye of denial to our actions or our situations. We want to tell ourselves that it is not a big deal. After all, we reason, we are not acting upon those thoughts. Or maybe we ease our spirits by reminding ourselves that whatever the action was, we’ve stopped and so it doesn’t really matter anymore.

It matters.

And while you hide it from most there are some who see it.

And while those that see it probably can’t put their finger on exactly what it is, our loving Father can put His finger on it exactly.

If you are His child He will do just that.

There is nothing to fear from Him who loves us. I mean, He knows you’ve been blowing those leaves around.

Love and Blessings,

A Reformed Leaf Blower

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
